A former bank building (thus the location), The Ned had a massive £200 million courtesy Soho House in 2017. However, it’s still maintained its gorgeous furnishings found in the original Sir Edwin Lutyens building. Dating back to the 1920s, you can expect rich textured interiors in full 1920s style. There’s a stunning library lounge and a stunning new spa with a low-lit swimming pool if you’re looking for some peace and quiet. If you’re lucky enough to have the wallet for a five star hotel stay but want to avoid the stuffy senisibilities that might come with it, Brown’s Hotel brings a gentle sense of class, cosiness and warmth. I was lucky enough to stay on a business trip many years ago and what stood out to me was the gorgeous decor of the main dining room Charlie’s and the cool blue glow of the Donovan Bar. At the time, I remember the head bar tender held the guinness world record for the most expensive co*cktail available – £5,500! Good to check the menu beforehand. 8. The Laslett, Notting Hill

The Laslett, a charming hotel in Notting Hill, offers a luxurious and wellness-focused experience. The Henderson Bar & Kitchen is named after a Notting Hill Carnival founder and not to take away from the rest of our visit, but the co*cktails were definitely a highlight. The Prince Akatoki in London offers a serene, Japanese-inspired luxury experience in the heart of Marylebone. If Kew Gardens and Buckingham Palace had a love child, it might look a little something like the Winter Garden restaurant at The Landmark London Hotel. And this year actually marks the 125th anniversary. Boasting a high glass roof that dwarfs even the majestic palm trees here, the dining area of this five-star Marylebone hotel will quite literally stop you in your tracks. In addition to resting in their stunning rooms and dining at the Winter Garden, there’s much more to enjoy at The Landmark London Hotel. Exploring the building itself is a treat. You can see many that it has been a prominent Victorian-era railway hotel for over 120 years (located directly across from Marylebone Station) and retains many historical features, such as the lift bells. The hotel offers three other dining options – The Great Central Pub, The Mirror Bar, and Garden Terrace – and an opulent High Palms High Tea, served in the beloved Winter Garden. They also have a stunning new refurbed Rose Garden at the Champagne Bar which really is a ‘floral haven’ accompanied by an expansive list of Rosé Champagne, Rosé wines and co*cktails of course.

On the atrium level, you’ll find some shops, and the basem*nt houses a tranquil spa. Whether you’re in the mood for a treatment or just want to use the facilities, the choice is yours. The pool, private gym, steam rooms, jacuzzi, and sanarium are typically peaceful during the week, perfect for escaping the city’s hustle. 12. AMANO, Covent Garden

From the moment you enter through the flora-framed double doors of AMANO, you are welcomed into a vibrant world. The lobby is bedecked in vibey lighting, smells gorgeous, and the staff are so welcoming. The hotel rooms are decked out in a modern style, with neutral colours. All rooms make for a sumptuous night’s stay, but if you really want to treat yourself, book yourself into the Goldy room. This lavish upgrade boasts a gorgeous golden bathtub, alongside the walk-in shower, and has views over the theatres on Drury Lane. 13. W Hotel, Soho

Sitting right at the entrance to Chinatown, the W London makes its presence known with a bold and beautiful ‘W’ statue at its entrance. As you take the lift up to reception, you’ll notice the time of day is indicated with ‘good morning’, ‘good afternoon’, or ‘good evening’ flooring in the lift; it’s little things like this that demonstrate the W’s attention to detail from the off. While I was here to relax – and more on that later – the hotel itself is very vibey. It is styled on the notion of ‘Soho nightlife‘, and boasts an impressive 667 disco balls throughout the hotel, including the largest disco ball in the UK. From the point of check-in to check-out, the service was exceptional, delivered with a smile or laugh, and very personable. 14. Bo Tree, Marylebone

Sitting at the crossroads where Marylebone, Mayfair and Soho meet, you’ll find The BoTree, a brand-newish hotel, which opened in September 2023. With Bond Street station visible from its front door, this place is in a desirable location. The hotel’s name radiates through their lobby, not in words, but within their gorgeous decor, particularly wood ceilings and foliage. You’ll feel as though you’re in a luxury treehouse. The BoTree’s approach is to deliver a high-end, high-energy hotel, with eco-conscious credentials. The team is committed to reducing its resource and carbon footprint year on year, opting for digital methods that aid this mission. As previously mentioned, the interiors – particularly those in the lobby – adhere to this earthy feel.

There are 199 rooms within The BoTree, 30 of which are suites – the largest, and most expensive of all even boasts its own entrance and outdoor terrace. One day, eh. However, all rooms, no matter the room type, ooze decadence; they’re adorned with colourful natural fabrics and eclectic textures created exclusively for the hotel. Tamsin Salfrais

15. Sun Street, Shoreditch

If bright and boujie is your aesthetic, a visit to Sun Street Hotel needs to be in your diary. The hotel was originally six Georgian townhouses designed in the 1880s, but today this five-star Shoreditch spot offers a distinctive elegance-meets-exotic style, inspired by 1913 children’s picture book ‘The Google Book’ by VC Vickers. The hotel’s crowning glory is arguably their series of lounge and dining spaces, one of which – the library room – plays host to a fancy afternoon tea every weekend.

There are 41 guest rooms and suites in the hotel; while each room type has options of classic (red) or contemporary (blue) decor, all rooms boast modern indulgences and luxury amenities. The rooms and suites are pretty spenny, but it is to be expected for a five-star stay in Zone 1. Each of the rooms over look the main street or the courtyard of One Crown Place, and while the service is most definitely five star, it is not pretentiously so. Tamsin Salfrais

16. Andaz, Shoreditch

Andaz means ‘personal style’ in Hindi, and this hotel really boasts bags of personality. It truly embodies ‘historical quirks meets modern attributes’ – right up my street. It gave me kind of art gallery vibes, with concentric circles, graffiti art, stained glass domes, grand staircases, traditional paintings, and so much more under one roof. My favourite room by far was where I ate breakfast; every weekend, breakfast is served in the grand events room, with its high ceilings, ornate pillars, and the gorgeous stained glass dome – the ambience is spectacular. The guest rooms are way more modernised; they’re minimalist, but with pops of colour. I stayed on the sixth floor, and enjoyed a lovely view of the surrounding area from the almost nautical circular windows. Tamsin Salfrais

If you want to get the true London-like-a-local experience, look no further than Mason & Fifth in Primrose Hill. This stylish new North London guesthouse is the perfect spot to hunker down in if you want to instantly feel right at home. They offer all the home-from-home comforts you could possibly need – and you’re going to feel like the main character of a movie when you step out the front door, straight onto the swanky streets of Primrose Hill. They offer 61 stunning studio rooms; with interiors so gorgeous that you’ll want to redecorate every room the moment you arrive home. Lovely staff, a healthy and delicious help-yourself brekkie, weekly run clubs and a gorgeous back garden, complete with a yoga studio. 18. Mama Shelter London Shoreditch, Shoreditch

After a fabulously fun evening of karaoke, I headed upstairs for the night at Mama Shelter. Those who were unlucky enough to hear the Secret London team’s singing will be pleased to know that guest rooms are a minimum of two floors up from the karaoke rooms, and totally soundproofed. In line with the hotel’s character, the rooms are quirky and functional, with bold artwork and patterns. Although the rooms are compact, they don’t feel stuffy; Mama Shelter really makes the most of the space, offering all the mod cons you need for a comfortable stay, and even managing to fit in booths, ideal for working. 19. The Guardsman, St James Park

Sitting on a Westminster side street, moments from Buckingham Palace, you’ll find The Guardsman hotel. As a five-star residence with opulent neighbours, it may seem surprising that this spot falls into the ‘hidden gem’ category. Despite its glamorous, gold-accented facade, this spot blends in with its surroundings; however, once you step inside, you’ll see what makes this hotel stand out. Guest rooms are split into ‘rooms’ for short visits and ‘residences’ for longer stays. No matter where you’re staying, the rooms are incredible – in my room, I had a TV that turned into a mirror when switched off, and built-in Bluetooth speakers in the bathroom. 20. Nobu, Shoreditch

If it is a special occasion, and you’ve eaten and drank yourself silly, it’s only right to make use of one of Nobu Hotel London Shoreditch’s hotel rooms. Now, you can book into one of the new rooms at the top of the building, or stay in the just as sumptuous other room types on lower levels. Each room comes complete with a king-size, or super king-size bed (all the better for stretching out after your indulgent meal), Wi-Fi, a traditional Japanese tea set, and all the comforting amenities you need for your stay – I’m not kidding when I say they have thought of everything. The minimalist Japanese interiors conceal a trove of helpful treasures in the bathroom (top tip: look inside the soap holder!), and in the room itself, you’ll want for nothing with a fully stocked minibar and even a drawer of tasty premium snacks. There is a ‘welcome back’ offer off the back of the relaunch, which includes a £100 food and beverage credit, room upgrade and late check-out, subject to availability with each booking.
